Borrowing From Yourself

“Beautiful things don’t ask for attention.”

Clothing and jewelry are not the only things that can be bought second hand and brought to life, and second hand doesn’t always have to be from someone else.

My husband and I recently decided to move to a bigger apartment, which I of course took as an excuse to redecorate! When we got married, I didn’t know anything about home decor or home design, so I registered for all kinds of things that I thought, “Well, I don’t know, that looks pretty I guess.”

Now I am left with many beautiful pieces that do not go together at all. My living room is blue, yellow, and gray, my kitchen is black and white, my dining room doesn’t really have any colors, our bedroom is turquoise and brown, and the bathroom is all fall colors. How does any of that flow?

Since redecorating an entire space is no small feat and no small cost, I decided to take liberties where I could. That is why I decided to start borrowing against myself! I plucked two small throw pillows that we had laying on our bed which my mother had sewn for us when we got married and decided to re-do them so that they actually matched our new place.20190206_144213

I set out to find fabric that would match the proper pillows and quickly found a small piece that was on sale and it was all I needed! I picked out this bright, baby yellow since I wanted to keep it simple, seeing as my other pillows already had a lot of pattern.

That way it would add interest without competing with the other patterns. We set off to ironing, pinning, and stitching, which was more difficult than I had anticipated for a pillow – WARNING: Do NOT stuff your pillows too much or you will stab yourself with pins trying to keep the pieces down!20190206_144352

We finally got all of the pieces together and took the stuffing from the previous pillows and put it into the new ones. We created a semi-simple and very inexpensive fix to a decorating dilemma by borrowing against myself and transforming old pillows that no longer matched to fresh, cute, new pillows with a little flair that will be perfect for our new apartment! Now pray for us as we move everything else!
